PROTECTING & IMPROVING THE TAY
There are two large weirs on the Shochie Burn near Luncarty. Both have fish passes and good numbers of juveniles are found upstream, indicating these passes work as well as fish passes do. However, in both cases, continued cleaning is required to make sure the passes are clear and they are deteriorating due to age. Beavers now complicate matters by using these are sites for damming. Therefore, the Board would ultimately like to see these weirs removed or substantially modified, but this produces other issues that would have to be dealt with in order to get permission. The Board is working with local landowners and SEPA to arrive at better long term solutions.
