NATIONAL MARINE SCOTLAND PROJECT
NATIONAL ELECTROFISHING PROGRAMME FOR SCOTLAND (NEPS)
The Board is a participant in the National Electrofishing Programme For Scotland (NEPS). This is a major initiative established by Marine Scotland to develop a statistically robust juvenile salmon electrofishing programme across the whole of Scotland. It was established in 2018 and involves boards and fisheries trusts across Scotland contracted to supply data to Marine Scotland, collected in a standardised manner. As our contribution, Board staff have fished 30 sites across the Tay district in both 2018 and 2019. NEPS is being developed to complement Marine Scotland’s adult salmon catch based river categorisation methodology partly in response to recognition of the limitations of that methodology. Further details of the NEPS initiative can be found here and a report on the 2018 results here.
