ERROCHTY WATER TEMPERATURE STUDY

However, the flow of the Errochty is controlled as part of the Tummel-Garry hydro scheme. The Errochty is fed by a "compensation" flow which is released from the lower levels of Errochty Dam via a small power station at Trinafour.

Previous research by the Board and the Tay Foundation revealed that, as in the River Lyon, the temperature of the water drawn from the lower levels of the reservoir can be lower than it naturally would be in late spring and early summer.

In order to better understand this issue and to provide baseline information to inform any future changes to the flow rate in the Errochty the Board, in collaboration with SSE, conducted a project to monitor the temperature of this stream at various locations along its length. Read more here.
