PROTECTING & IMPROVING
ENHANCEMENT OF SPAWNING SUBSTRATE ON THE ERROCHTY WATER
The Errochty Water is a very important spring salmon spawning tributary which joins the River Garry at Struan. However, while there are good spawning areas in the middle Errochty, the upper part of this tributary has relatively few good salmon spawning areas. This may result from the fact that the upper Errochty is now dammed by Errochty Dam and that gravel movements down the river are much more limited than they would once have been.
We wish to establish firstly whether there is a reduced number of juvenile salmon in the upper Errochty and, if so, to investigate the possibility of how spawning gravel might be introduced to that area. We have already consulted with SSE who have expressed an interest in such work.
